Compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications, and may also be influenced by internal equity and market conditions.

Description

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Oversee all daily shop operations, fabrication activities, inventory management, and logistics functions.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, and resources to ensure production schedules and customer commitments are achieved.
  • Develop and manage daily and weekly work plans.
  • Monitor workflow and productivity while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with project management to establish priorities and ensure successful project execution.

Leadership & Personnel Management

  • Directly supervise shop personnel, including supervisors, lead hands, fabricators, welders, labourers, and logistics staff.
  • Establish performance expectations and maintain accountability for results.
  • Conduct employee coaching, training, performance evaluations, and corrective action when required.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and employee development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Inventory & Materials Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory records and stock levels.
  • Coordinate purchasing requirements with procurement personnel.
  • Monitor material usage and inventory movement to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Implement and maintain inventory control procedures.
  • Ensure materials are available to support fabrication schedules and customer requirements.

Logistics & Shipping

  • Oversee shipping, receiving, material handling, and warehouse activities.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics requirements.
  • Ensure shipments are prepared accurately and dispatched on schedule.
  • Work closely with customers, suppliers, and transportation providers to resolve logistics issues.

Quality Assurance

  • Review fabrication drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Ensure all fabricated products meet company standards and customer requirements.
  • Investigate quality concerns and implement corrective actions.
  • Promote a culture focused on workmanship, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

Health & Safety

  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable workplace safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and safety observations.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective measures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Equipment & Facility Management

  • Ensure shop equipment, tools, and machinery are maintained in safe working condition.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance programs and repairs.
  • Identify capital equipment requirements and operational improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain facility organization and housekeeping standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and profitability.
  • Standardize processes and procedures where appropriate.
  • Support operational growth and scalability objectives.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and report results to management.
Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fabrication, manufacturing, industrial operations, logistics, or a related field.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience managing production schedules, personnel, inventory, and operational performance.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of inventory control systems and logistics operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business management software.

Leadership Skills

  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry materials and equipment when necessary.
  • Ability to work safely around fabrication equipment, forklifts, cranes, and industrial machinery.
