Human Resources Manager
Position Summary:
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for managing the full HR cycle across recruitment, onboarding, payroll, health and safety, employee relations, compensation, policy development, and compliance. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both strategic thinking and day-to-day execution. The ideal candidate is collaborative, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, people-centric environment.
Key Responsibilities: Recruitment & Onboarding
- Lead full-cycle recruitment: sourcing, interviewing, testing, selection, offers, and onboarding.
- Coordinate orientation and integration for new employees.
- Track and report on recruitment effectiveness and onboarding progress.
Payroll & HRIS
- Oversee bi-weekly full-cycle payroll for approximately 170 non-union employees.
- Manage employee data and records within payroll and HR systems (ADP or similar).
- Ensure accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality in payroll and reporting
- Monitoring Payroll-Related Taxes and Deductions
- Year-End Payroll Processing (T4 and T1 Preparation)
- Preparation and Filing of Monthly WSIB Reports
Health & Safety
- Own the Health & Safety program, including audits, training, compliance, policy development, and internal communication.
- Lead or support the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with legislation.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Act as a trusted advisor to employees and leaders on performance, conflict resolution, investigations, and engagement.
- Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Maintain a strong employee communication plan and coordinate internal engagement initiatives.
HR Policy & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures in compliance with current legislation.
- Deliver ongoing training and ensure employees are informed of relevant HR topics and safety protocols.
- Monitor and interpret employment law changes and make policy recommendations.
Compensation Analysis & Management
- Conduct market analysis to assess competitive compensation levels across roles and departments.
- Support the development and implementation of equitable and compliant compensation structures.
- Make recommendations for salary adjustments, merit increases, and incentive programs.
- Advise managers on compensation best practices and support budgeting processes.
Foreign Worker & Agency Staff Coordination
- Administer the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (including LMIA applications, housing, travel, and documentation).
- Liaise with external staffing agencies to ensure contract and compliance requirements are met.
Strategic Support & Other Projects
- Prepare HR reports and dashboards using data analytics to support decision-making.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects related to HR, compliance, or employee experience.
- Support succession planning and talent development strategies.
- Other support projects as requested.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field.
- CHRP designation (or in progress) is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a manufacturing, food production, or agricultural setting.
- Payroll processing experience preferred (ADP Workforce Now or equivalent); training available.
- Experience with compensation benchmarking and analysis is an asset.
- Proven leadership in Health & Safety and legislative compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Bilingualism in English and another language such as Spanish or Mandarin is an asset.
- Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and willingness to engage
- Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Adaptable and proactive with a continuous improvement mindset.
