Description

Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager, Human Resources is a rare build-it-yourself opportunity: a hands-on leadership role that runs and shapes the organization’s HR function day to day, spanning employee relations, policy and employment agreement administration, recruitment, compliance, and HR systems. This is a foundational role – you’ll help build modern policies, standardized employment agreements, complete employee records, a new HRIS, and a genuine engagement program, in addition to running day-to-day HR operations. The role also oversees office facilities and front desk/security coordination at our Stoney Creek office. Reporting to the VP Finance, you’ll drive our HR strategic roadmap forward and act as the go-to HR partner across every business unit.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee relations matters, conducting investigations, documenting findings, and recommending resolutions in line with company policy and applicable employment law.
  • Administer performance management processes, including performance improvement plans, disciplinary documentation, and separation support, in coordination with the VP Finance and employment counsel where required.
  • Modernize and maintain the Employee Handbook and HR policies across the organization’s multi-jurisdiction footprint, ensuring alignment with applicable federal, provincial, and international employment standards.
  • Design and implement standardized, jurisdiction-specific employment agreement templates across Canada, the U.S., and Latin America, and lead the transition of existing employees onto updated agreements.
  • Support compliance obligations and regulatory filings as required, coordinating with the Health & Safety team on any related documentation.

Talent Acquisition, Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Own the end-to-end recruitment process for assigned roles, from intake with hiring managers through job posting, screening, and offer coordination.
  • Deliver and continuously improve the new hire orientation and onboarding program, ensuring materials are centrally documented and accessible.
  • Build and own a consistent, professional offboarding process, including exit logistics, final documentation, separation support, and coordination with Payroll and IT on final pay and system access.
  • Own workforce planning end-to-end, including headcount forecasting, hiring prioritization, and organizational structure recommendations by business unit, in partnership with the VP Finance.

HR Operations & Systems

  • Manage day-to-day HR administration, including benefits administration support, leave and vacation-liability management, and coordination with Payroll and Benefits.
  • Establish and maintain complete, centralized, audit-ready personnel files for every employee across all entities.
  • Lead the selection and implementation of a new HRIS platform, including data migration, workflow design, and user training.
  • Track and report HR metrics — turnover, time-to-fill, headcount by business unit, vacation liability — to support finance and executive reporting.

Office & Facilities Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for office facilities matters at the Stoney Creek location, liaising with building management on maintenance, access, and space planning.
  • Own front desk and reception operations, including coverage scheduling, visitor management, and mail/courier logistics.
  • Coordinate office physical security, including access administration and security vendor relationships.

Culture & Organizational Development

  • Own the annual employee engagement survey end-to-end, from design through results readout and follow-up actions.
  • Own the employee engagement and events calendar, delivering a consistent, recurring cadence of initiatives.
  • Support execution of company HR strategic roadmap, including foundational documentation, core people processes, and governance milestones.
  • Partner with business unit leaders to reinforce consistent people practices across a lean, multi-entity environment.
  • Escalate matters with legal, financial, or reputational risk to the VP Finance promptly and with complete information.
Qualifications
  • 5-8+ years of progressive HR generalist or HR management experience, ideally in a multi-entity or multi-jurisdiction organization.
  • CHRL/CHRP designation (or in progress) preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with employee relations, investigations, and performance management, including sensitive or contested matters.
  • Experience in a high growth environment, building HR infrastructure from a low base (policies, employment agreement templates, records systems) rather than only administering mature processes.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario employment standards; experience with additional Canadian provinces or U.S. jurisdictions an asset.
  • Experience implementing an HRIS system is an asset.
  • Experience supporting a unionized environment (collective agreement administration, grievance handling, or labour relations) preferred.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, professional documentation independently.
  • Comfortable taking direction, responding constructively to feedback, and collaborating cross-functionally, particularly with Finance.
  • Comfortable overseeing front desk/reception and basic office facilities coordination alongside core HR responsibilities.
  • A genuine people person: approachable, discreet, and quick to earn trust from the shop floor to the executive table.
  • Even-handed and steady in tone across every function, and able to keep relationships constructive even under pressure.
  • Genuinely energized by technology and AI, and eager to put new tools to work on how HR runs, reports, and makes decisions.
  • A self-starter who spots what needs doing and gets on with it, while collaborating openly across Finance, business units, and external partners.
