Position Overview

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Director of Procurement is responsible for leading the organization’s procurement strategy, sourcing initiatives, and vendor management to ensure the best value in cost, quality, and service. This role oversees procurement operations, negotiates contracts, ensures compliance with company and regulatory standards, and drives continuous improvement across within the organization. The Director of Procurement plays a critical role in supporting the organization’s growth, cost-efficiency, and operational resilience.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement comprehensive procurement and supply chain strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives to optimize cost savings while maintaining quality standards.
  • Create and manage annual budgets for procurement and supply chain departments.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure procurement and supply chain effectiveness.

Procurement Management

  • Oversee procurement activities, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and purchasing.
  • Develop and enforce procurement policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Analyze spending patterns and identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Manage contract administration and ensure compliance with terms and conditions.

Vendor Management

  • In partnership with the Senior Buyer, build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers.
  • Conduct regular supplier performance evaluations.
  • Negotiate favorable terms, volume discounts, and service level agreements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on product innovation and quality improvement initiatives.

Team Leadership

  • Manage procurement and inventory control staff, including hiring, training, and evaluation.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration between procurement, operations, finance, and other departments.
  • Mentor team members and develop succession plans for key positions.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Technology and Systems

  • Select and implement procurement and supply chain management technologies.
  • Leverage data analytics for informed decision-making.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives to increase automation and efficiency.
  • Ensure systems integration across the procurement and supply chain ecosystem.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Develop contingency plans for supply chain disruptions.
  • Monitor market trends and economic factors affecting supply availability and pricing.
  • Implement sustainability and ethical sourcing practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 8–12 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, including leadership roles.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and financial acumen.
  • Experience with procurement software.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven track record of leading strategic sourcing and cost optimization initiatives.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications such as CPSM.
  • Experience in the steel industry.
  • Knowledge of international sourcing and global supply chain management.
