Accounting Manager

Description

As the accounting manager, you will oversee the day-to-day accounting functions of the Company and its subsidiaries, and you will supervise one staff member. This position requires hands-on work related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking. Additionally, the accounting manager will assist the vice-president of finance with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and company policies.
  • General Ledger Management: Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and reconciling key accounts.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist the vice-president of finance with developing budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis reports.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, delegating tasks effectively and promoting professional development.
  • Audit Preparation: Coordinate and oversee internal and external audits, ensuring the integrity of financial records and documentation.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate and implement accounting procedures, policies, and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Hands-On Tasks: Actively participate in daily accounting operations, including tasks related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, tax laws, and reporting standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Chartered Professional Accountant certification preferred
  • At least five years of progressive accounting experience with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and internal controls
  • Proven experience with accounting software (such as QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, or SAP)
  • Experience with project accounting preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including knowledge of pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling)
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across departments
  • Hands-on approach with a willingness to complete highly detailed work in a thorough manner
