Description
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income
statements, and cash flow statements. - Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations,
and general ledger maintenance. - Perform job costing and monitor project budgets, committed costs, and profitability.
- Analyze project costs, identify cost variances, and provide financial recommendations to project managers
and senior leadership. - Prepare and maintain work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and support revenue recognition in accordance
with applicable accounting standards. - Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, including subcontractor payments, progress billings,
holdbacks, and collections. - Process payroll for salaried and hourly employees, ensuring compliance with applicable payroll legislation
and reporting requirements. - Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
- Support external audits, tax preparation, and year-end financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and applicable financial regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, operations, and executive leadership to provide timely
financial reporting and project performance insights. - Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP reporting, percentageof-
completion accounting, and project cost management. - Experience with accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar ERP
systems. - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, account reconciliations, and financial
reporting. - Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting best practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
- High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or CPA candidate) is considered an asset.
- Experience with union payroll, subcontract management, and construction contracts is preferred.
- Familiarity with lien legislation, holdback requirements, and construction tax regulations is an asset.
