Staff Accountant

Description
  • 10-30 Hours per week
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform account reconciliations including general ledger reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation to ensure data accuracy.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or PeopleSoft.
  • Record journal entries accurately, including debits & credits, ensuring proper documentation for audit trails.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including accrual accounting and financial report writing.
  • Support internal controls compliance
  • Conduct financial analysis such as cash flow analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and account analysis to inform management decisions.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts regularly to maintain data integrity across systems like Microsoft Excel or specialized financial software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on regulatory reporting requirements related to securities law, governmental accounting standards, or nonprofit regulations like LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit).
  • Mentor junior staff or interns on accounting best practices, technical accounting concepts, and software tools.
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of compliance and regulatory reporting standards.
  • Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with non-profit and small business accounting practices
  • Technical expertise in financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and journal entries.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial reports and prepare clear financial statements.
  • Excellent analytical skills with experience in financial statement interpretation and financial management.
  • Familiarity with governmental accounting standards and securities law considerations for public entities or private equity firms.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and creating detailed reports.
  • Knowledge of payroll processing, tax experience related to finance operations, and regulatory compliance requirements.
