Sr. Payroll Compliance
What you’ll get to do:
• Knowledge of balancing/filing T4/RL1 slips from a reporting and remitting perspective
• Own and oversee End-of-year adjustments/amendments for T4 / RL1
• Work closely with the T4 team in the Year-end tax reconciliation processes
• Investigate and respond to members regarding their tax and T4-related questions
• Perform audits in Great Plains to identify tax/T4 discrepancies so we minimize end-of-year issues
• Handle multiple employers from a setup and administration perspective – how to set up internal systems to facilitate processing at the government level like, payroll accounts, ROE and web management.
• Assist client payroll and billing requests via telephone and/or email in an efficient and time-sensitive manner
• Provide support and answer questions concerning entry of TD-1s/CPT-30 forms by payroll team
• Assist in creating Pdoc
• Analyze and resolve discrepancies in withholdings and tax deductions
• Answer CRA’s questions/inquiries for tax questions, PIER notices, CPP/EI ruling notices, and account discrepancy notices both internally and externally
• Manage and understand TS types and how they will affect payroll and T4s
• Research, manage and lead efforts to implement new tax legislation, both Federal and Provincial
• Analyze/research and provide feedback on complex tax issues and changes
• Assist in possible payroll and tax audits
• Lead on T2200 and assist in gathering and completing the forms for qualified candidates
Skills and experience we value:
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business
• 5 years’ experience in a payroll compliance role
• Professional Designation such as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
• Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP)
• Certified Payroll Manager (CPM)
• Knowledge of Finance and HR systems
• High proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Experience with Ceridian Dayforce and Great Plains would be an asset
• Knowledge of general payroll/wage/hourly rules and regulations for all provinces and territory jurisdictions
• Strong understanding of what earnings are taxable/insurable/pensionable and how they get reported on T4/RL1 slips
• Strong analytical, problem solving and reasoning skills
• Initiative and can work independently and with minimal supervision
• High standards of business and ethical values and adherence to confidentiality
