Description
- Supervise, coordinate, and schedule QA technicians, inspectors, and lab personnel.
- Train employees on food safety, hygiene, GMP, documentation, and company policies.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and support professional development.
- Manage daily QA team activities and workload distribution.
- Oversee sampling and testing of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods (physical, chemical, microbiological)
- Review and approve test results, batch records, and Certificates of Analysis.
- Ensure proper calibration, verification, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain accurate and complete QA and food safety records.
- Ensure compliance with CFIA, FDA, USDA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain GFSI certification standards (e.g., SQF, BRC).
- Implement and verify HACCP plans across all production stages.
- Monitor production processes for adherence to GMP, HACCP, and internal quality standards.
- Verify sanitation procedures and environmental monitoring programs.
- Conduct internal audits (process, sanitation, documentation).
- Lead and support external audits from customers, certifying bodies, and regulatory agencies.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of QA documentation and check sheets.
- Investigate product non-conformances, deviations, and customer complaints.
- Lead root-cause analysis using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, or FMEA.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Recommend and support process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Manage the hold-and-release program for non-conforming products.
- Make decisions on product release, rejection, or rework.
- Ensure proper traceability, labeling, and documentation throughout production.
- Coordinate disposition of non-conforming materials.
- Prepare quality reports for management, including trends and audit outcomes.
- Approve or update SOPs, work instructions, and quality manuals.
- Analyze statistical data to identify quality trends and improvement opportunities.
- Work closely with production, maintenance, sanitation, and R&D teams.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to address quality and process issues.
- Support supplier quality management and vendor audits.
- Conduct customer complaint investigations and follow-up.
- Assist with regulatory inspections and certification audits.
Qualifications
- Education: Usually a degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Certifications: Knowledge of HACCP, GFSI (SQF/BRC), and local food laws is essential.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to work in fast-paced production environments.
