Nutrition & Food Services Supervisor

Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION
To provide effective leadership to staff within Nutrition and Food Services to meet the needs of patients, staff and visitors, within specified standards, and in an efficient manner.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct and indirect supervision to staff in Production, Beltline, Ware Washing, Retail and other areas of the Department to meet quality standards and budget requirements.
- Accurately check beltline tray service.
- Monitor and coach staff, and complete performance appraisals to optimize performance and team work.
- Provide support to the Manager with respect to employee performance issues.
- Coordinate, monitor and document staff training to ensure compliance with mandatory training.
- Monitor equipment and food temperature audits and follow up on variances.
- Monitor equipment functioning, identify problems, schedule repairs as needed in conjunction with Facilities and external provider.
- Participate in the development of, and monitoring of, safe work practices to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Conduct audits with respect to tray accuracy, food waste, safety and other items as required.
- Monitor and ensure sanitation standards are met.
- Perform patient meal rounds and provide information to diet office and Dietitians as appropriate.
- Identify and provide input into the development of quality improvement and cost control initiatives.
- Participate in the cost effective procurement of food, supplies and equipment as required.
- Plan staff schedules to meet departmental needs in a 7 day/week operation; according to the collective agreement and departmental procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE
- Graduate of an approved college level Food and Nutrition Management Program or equivalent.
- Current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM).
- Knowledge of food safety guidelines and HACCP requirements.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Knowledge of therapeutic and texture modified diets.
- Knowledge of quantity food production, recipe standardization, and cook/chill food production.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- Ability to effectively lead large groups of staff and promote a positive work environment.
- Ability to analyze and adjust work schedules to maximize efficiency of human and financial resources.

- Proficient use of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Good attendance record with ability to maintain same.
- Ability to adhere to the Company code of conduct.
EXPERIENCE
- 3 years related supervisory experience in a hospital environment.
- Experience in a unionized hospital environment.
- Experience with CBORD and Meditech computer systems preferred.
- Experience with cook chill institutional production.
