Description
  • Manage the team responsible for access, optical and IP networks in Quebec. Supervise all network implementation tasks related to projects for which detailed technical network design has been done and approved by engineering related to high-speed Internet, telephony, video, IT, commercial fiber clients, management, and all services using these networks.
  • Oversee the implementation of Access, IP and Optical network projects considering growth requirements and technological roadmaps. This includes upgrades required by the video services team, any layer 2 technologies using L2/L3 switches, DOCSIS, EPON augmentations and MPLS network solutions as needed to support the growth of Commercial Fiber Clients.
  • Identify opportunities to improve organizational processes by promoting automated tools, diverse and redundant designs, and better synergies between technical experts in the foot print in CA and US to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Consolidate, prepare, and communicate three-to-five-year growth plans for network engineering for IP networks, MPLS networks, access networks and optical networks to ensure engineering solutions are designed and budgeted according to capacity demands, technological roadmaps, and alignment between different entities.
  • Analyze network capacity requests from strategic projects under the responsibility of video services, marketing, and others, assess network needs, and communicate budgets and timelines to ensure timely delivery of network solutions.
  • Lead all inter-functional processes within the company related to budgetary activities, planning, and implementation of network infrastructure.
  • Represent teams across various services.
  • Coordinate with the Network Management Center and all operational teams regarding planned changes related to growth projects, initiatives, marketing plans, and operational changes in the network infrastructure.
  • Coordinate capital requests required for ACCESS/IP/MPLS/optical networks in Quebec according to engineering designs prepared by technical experts.
  • Manage capital projects and budgets effectively.
  • Build working relationships with all network engineering teams from both functional units, including the Commercial Fiber Clients team, to assess MPLS network requirements and integration needs in Quebec.
  • Develop strong relationships with the video services team to coordinate the numerous capital projects planned each year that directly impact network design and capacity.
  • From an operational perspective, establish strong relationships with the Network Management Center, IP voice and systems operations team, and technicians to coordinate and improve processes.
  • Communicate team activities and progress to ensure they receive the necessary attention and funding.
  • Collaborate with the Network Operations Center and operations teams to continuously improve operational processes and increase efficiency.
  • Set annual goals for team members, review them based on new operational requirements, and manage the performance review process.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent degree is required.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Five (5) years of experience with telecommunications and Internet technologies.
  • Technical experience must include optical transport (DWDM, SONET), TCP/IP protocol, IGP routing (e.g., OSPF protocol), EGP protocol (e.g., BGP protocol), LAN, switching, bridging, and routing protocols.
  • Very good understanding of DOCSIS and EPON technologies.  Cisco Network certifications are a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in French and English.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with others.
  • Capable of effectively coordinating and executing multiple tasks simultaneously in a constantly evolving environment with potentially conflicting deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to independently identify and resolve issues, ensuring the quality of one’s own work.
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills. Ability to evaluate the impact of decisions.
  • Good knowledge of Access, IP and optical network technologies.
  • Familiarity with Cisco routing technologies and network design.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Solid project management experience combined with strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Detail-oriented with proven technical documentation skills.
  • Practical knowledge of Google Cloud products.
  • Working with unionized members is a plus
