HR Generalist

Job Summary: This position is the HR Generalist for the Whitby location. Under the guidance of the HR Manager, this position is responsible for all HR related activities in Whitby. The Human Resources Generalist is also responsible for a variety of health and safety items. This position reports to the HR Manager with a dotted line reporting to the Whitby Plant Manager.

Primary Duties:

Human Resources Administration
• Facilitate the preparation of weekly manning schedule and post in accordance with the collective agreement
• Vacation management in accordance with the collective agreement and the company approval process
• Benefits, pension and payroll administration including
o Payroll/timecard verification
o WSIB monthly remittances and year end reconciliation
o STD and WSIB forms processing
o Agency weekly timesheet submission as needed
o Pension contributions review and remittance to pension administrator
o Assist in any group benefits related employee inquiries
• Track attendance and performance per company policy

Employee/Labour Relations
• Assist employees on all HR related matters
• Prepare monthly newsletter, post notices, monitor communication boards and support various communication initiatives.
• Prepare and post seniority lists in accordance with the collective agreement
• Process all layoff and recall from layoff notices – compiling and issuing notices according to government and collective agreement standards.
• Plan and coordinate social and employee engagement activities
• Investigate queries from union regarding employee overtime/payments/call ins, etc.

Human Resources
• Recruitment and onboarding activities for hourly and salaried positions as required
• Conduct background check through Sterling Backcheck
• Lead and/or participate in special projects as required to support corporate and local business needs
• Prepare reports as requested and participate in policy development and revisions as required
• Track Grievances and ensure responses are within collective agreement timeline
• Investigate any issues with regards to violence and harassment in the workplace. Prepare appropriate documentation and make recommendations accordingly
• Organize/Conduct any Human Resources related training. Ensure training is tracked in ERS and employee file
• STD and WSIB Claims management in conjunction with the EHS Group Leader
• Ensure return to work program is followed

Health and Safety
• Conduct workplace inspections
• EHS Training/Orientation
• Control safety system – accident investigations, KSB observations
• Adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Celebrate safety successes
• Work with EHL Group Leader and participate in NA H&S Monthly meetings and safety initiatives

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:
• Post-secondary education in related field – Business Administration, Psychology, and college courses/diploma in Human Resources Management
• Knowledge of UltiPro payroll system an asset
• 2 to 3 years related experience
• CHRP designation or working towards designation
• Proficiency in MS Office
• Detail oriented and with excellent communication skills
• Understands the importance of confidentiality
