Position – H&S Manager

Job Purpose
H&S Manager shall be responsible for promoting a safe and healthy workplace for all employees, contractors, customers and visitors. Will develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures that promote and provide a healthier, safer work environment. The HSE Manager will determine strategic direction and implement plans based on recent safety audit results and will ensure that our policies and programs meet legislated requirements. Responsibilities will include training employees in safety management best practices, assisting with hazard identification and the development of safe work procedures.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the management of the local environmental health and safety management system to make certain historical incident (injury, spills, fire) experience is being focused upon; formal processes exist to identify and resolve incident risk potential, aspect and impacts are reduced and monitored; processes are in place to ensure adequate EHS training is provided; and protocol exists to assure regulatory compliance.
Develop annual EHS business plans identifying functional activities, training, machine guarding, ergonomic, environmental improvement and resource use, and other EH&S improvements needed with action plans and target implementation dates.
Integrate, environmental health & safety culture at all levels of shop floor and support plant EHS objectives and those of the CFT (Cross Functional Team).
Will serve as the champion for implementing corporate EHS initiatives and continual improvement objectives at the local level and will be responsible for ensuring that all necessary corporate EHS protocols are implemented, including the ‘Serious EHSP Incident Notification’ procedure.
Lead facility efforts to gain ISO 45001 certification and maintain ISO 14001 certification.
Keep up to date on the latest compliance obligations and best practices.
Develop processes to help assure that proper EHS provisions are incorporated into all jobs performed at the facility, employing techniques of hazard analysis, aspect and impact risk analysis, job safety analyses, safe job procedures and management systems.
Support and assure compliance with incident and near miss investigation process to ensure compliance and local recordkeeping requirements and corporate EHS initiatives.
Responsible for assuring implementation of the Safety-First Audit process. Follow-up as needed to assure that deficiencies identified as part of Safety-First Audits are satisfactorily resolved.
Formalize protocol for site safety committees in accordance with corporate expectations.
Develop with local HR and implement methodologies for assuring site accountability for EHS specific to disciplinary actions, documentation and follow-up procedures, including Life Safety Rules
Implement formal process for evaluating new and/or modified equipment/ processes/ facilities to assure that operations layout, environmental aspects, life safety, machinery and equipment, safe job procedures, risk related to poor ergonomics, etc. are set up in compliance with regulatory requirements and/or in accordance with corporate EHS procedures (i.e., Project Review, Design-In Safety, Red Tag Process, etc.).
Implement a contractor EHS program to assure that all contractors performing work on site follow established facility EHS requirements in accordance with corporate EHS procedures.

Qualifications

Experience Required:
5 years in a Health and Safety role, with 2-3 years leadership experience.
This role is a stand-alone role with no direct reports.
Automotive Manufacturing experience.
