Estimator
Responsibilities:
Position Summary: The Estimator role is to complete accurate, timely estimates including all required job costs to provide accurate bids to secure new work for the company. The position will also follow up on projects bid through interaction with the clients.
General Purpose: Follow the estimating process, policies, and procedures in the Estimators Handbook to complete an accurate, thorough, and complete estimate on assigned projects. Provide a complete estimate on assigned projects in the range of $500K to $3mm.
Essential Job Functions:
- Read and interpret plans and specifications to develop complete and accurate takeoff.
- Provide post bid follow up on projects; negotiate scope and pricing with clients, provide value engineering and/or scope modifications.
- Remain current in knowledge of innovations and processes on all electrical products.
- Enter accurate takeoffs in Estimating Software.
- Use Bluebeam or on screen takeoff software for all estimates.
- Provide a complete estimate on assigned jobs timely and accurately.
- Develop relationships with clients to earn their business.
- Complete budgets timely.
- Attend pre-bid walk throughs as required.
Position Responsibilities:
- Travel to remote regions as required.
- Maintain current material pricing knowledge.
- Understand and complete all bid forms.
- Analyze labor needs with a historical perspective to ensure correct assessment for the project.
- Prepare all pre-bid correspondence, ie: RFI’s, confirmatory correspondence, and scope.
- Confirm any addendum.
- Provide man loading for crew requirements.
- Develop preliminary schedule for project.
- Establish a contact list of participating GC’s including contact person, decision maker, with e-mail, phone numbers and cell phone numbers.
- Work with purchasing to ensure complete and accurate system quotes.
- Complete accurate bid letter.
- Prepare RFI to architects/engineers and monitor response.
- Attend job start up meeting on awarded work.
- Work with PM to complete budget on awarded work.
- Contact GC’s on unsuccessful projects to understand the bid results.
- Maintain good relationship with clients through regular communication and interaction.
- Continuously modify and update database reflecting current conditions.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Work Environment: This position is predominantly located in an office environment. Occasional visits to regional offices, job sites and vendor/manufacturer offices and factories as required.
Requirements:
- Minimum of five (2) year’s experience estimating low voltage systems.
- Electrical construction experience with knowledge of equipment, specifications, and competitive electrical bidding process.
- Open, honest, direct communication skills always.
- Very Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize and process large volumes of work in a timely manner.
- Analytical and problem solving skills.
- Computer skills minimum of Intermediate level or better.
- Able to work in a team environment.
Nonessential Skills and Experience:
- Electrical field experience/Electrical license.
- College degree.
