Position Overview
We are seeking a Director of Procurement to support the daily purchasing and sourcing activities of our manufacturing facilities in Ajax, ON. This position will hold both Group Level and Local Level responsibilities and will have reporting lines to the Group Chief Procurement Officer as well as our Local Plant and Operations Manager. This role is considered to be 100% onsite.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Procurement
- Support the Group Chief Procurement Officer in implementing and presenting new sourcing/procurement strategies, processes, and policies.
- Perform continuous market analysis to stay abreast of industry trends.
- Achieve 100% dual sourcing of raw materials.
- Act as a resource in the annual sourcing process/RFQ.
Vendor and Supplier Management
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors.
- Handle contract negotiations with vendors and suppliers, identifying ideal suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability.
- Plan and manage all supplier meetings in North America.
- Monitor consumption/allocation to ensure intended volume discount levels are reached.
- Conduct monthly negotiations, especially related to M&A’s.
Operational Procurement
- Responsible for evaluating and executing on-the-spot purchases.
- Manage the purchasing process, including buying, selling, and distribution aspects of the company per guidance from the central procurement team.
- Expedite orders as necessary while taking steps to prevent future needs.
- Process inventory transfers and adjustments for the warehouse.
- Manage production requirements to achieve required rebate targets.
- Implement improvements to existing purchasing and planning systems.
- Forecast and plan for future production and sales growth.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Manage a team of Materials Coordinators.
- Be accountable for team performance.
- Identify and implement improvement opportunities with cross-functional teams.
- Serve as the escalation point for Material Planning and Research and Development to prioritize allocation between suppliers.
Compliance and Reporting
- Remain compliant with ISO standards and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Adhere to the global sourcing policy and contribute to any changes and documentation of local sourcing as required.
- Assist the business with monthly inventory counts.
- Serve as a backup for procurement staff and understand the full supply chain process.
Forecasting and Analysis
- Forecast raw material demand for North America.
- Analyze current and future raw material levels and finished goods inventory levels to plan production schedules for 2-3 weeks out. Communicate with the global sourcing team on any raw material needs.
- Develop a structured forecasting system using business volume history, customer demands, and production output metrics to ensure appropriate inventory levels.
Qualifications
Education:
- Master’s degree in science or similar field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing.
- Over 5 years of managing commodity sourcing in an industrial company, preferably within the PE industry.
- Proven experience in forecasting.
- Experience with manufacturing processes and cost accounting.
- Experience with M&A activities and commercial integration.
