Description
The Buyer is responsible for purchasing goods and services to support organizational operations while ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality standards, and timely delivery. This role focuses on tactical procurement activities and requires strong vendor management skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
- Process purchase orders for routine materials such as steel, fasteners, and standard components
- Track shipments and deliveries to ensure materials arrive on schedule
- Update inventory management systems with delivery information
- Monitor inventory levels to prevent stockouts
- Coordinate with Production Managers & Logistics and Scheduling Manager to understand material requirements
- Maintain relationships with established suppliers of standard materials
- Communicate with vendors regarding pricing, delivery issues, and quality concerns
- Resolve routine problems with orders, deliveries, and product quality
- Compare prices from different suppliers for standard materials
- Negotiate pricing for standard items within established guidelines
- Process and verify invoices against purchase orders and receipts
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, deliveries, and supplier communications
- Generate standard procurement reports (e.g., open order reports, delivery performance)
- Document supplier quality issues and resolution actions

Qualifications
- 3-5 years of relevant purchasing experience, ideally in construction or manufacturing.
- Post-secondary education in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is an asset.
- Experience with ERP systems and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Strong negotiation skills with an understanding of their impact on project timelines and costs.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, production teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Proven experience in inventory control, ensuring materials are available without overstocking.
- A motivated, proactive individual who works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrates professionalism, honesty, and transparency in all procurement activities.
